Konjac Sponge for Labour

$14.95

This little beauty is your labour and birth buddy! But how? I hear you ask...

Well have you heard these sayings...

"soft face, soft fanny"

"loose lips, loose lips"

"as above, so below"

That's because your jaw is a mirror of your pelvic floor. If you are holding tension in your jaw you are holding tension and creating lift in your pelvic floor but when we bring awareness to this area, we are able to transfer relaxation, allowing our pelvic floor to soften and lengthen, allowing for an easier second stage of birth.

This pink clay konjac sponge can help relax your facial muscles when gently massaged over your face, neck and shoulders between contractions (while your birth support person scores multiple brownie points in the process). As we know for birth, a relaxed jaw is a relaxed pelvic floor and this little eco sponge brings with it heavenly mini facial vibes, to do exactly that.

And not only that! Perfect for postpartum as a self care ritual too! Just pop it in the compost when it starts to break down. A win for you and the environment!

The Full Story

I discovered its magical little powers as a mini facial-feeling sponge as a Mama bear just looking to up her self care game! And wow did I discover something more —— she is amazing for women in labour!

On a path to living a low tox life, I purchased one of these pink clay konjac sponges to try. Impressed by the fact it is 100% biodegradable, made from Japanese konjac potato fibres and mineral rich pink clay (with amazing skin benefits -increasing blood flow and assisting with cell renewal). It was love at first try as it felt like a mini facial. It quickly became one of my favourite skin care rituals and I remember one night thinking to myself “how amazing would this be for Loz in labour”

So who is Loz?

Loz is my beautiful sister. Rather than act as her Midwife for her second birth (due to insurances etc) I said I would act as her Doula, supporting her and my brother in law. She had a dreamy home birth and when she was labouring away in the birthing pool, I used the soft sponge to gently massage her face between contractions. I watched as her shoulders visibility lowered, her facial expressions just melt and she relaxed more deeply into labour. She had an incredibly empowering birth - the most beautiful birth I have ever witnessed and we welcomed another little boy into our family, baby Rayen, Feb 2020. She said to me that day that it was one of her fave things and made for a beautiful distraction too.

Reflexology Comb for Labour + Birth made from eco friendly cellulose acetate (highly biodegradable) and imprinted with Seasons of Mama mantra

~ Open, Soften, Surrender ~

This natural and very effective pain management tool helps women in labour by activating Gate Control Theory. This asserts that when painful stimuli (such as a contraction) is felt at the same time as non-painful stimuli (such as with this “handy” acupressure tool - pun definitely intended) pain signals are then limited from reaching the brain.

This is what we refer to as our “Secret Weapon” for labour and is a tool loved by Midwives, Doulas and of course, Mamas alike. She earns bonus points for being waterproof too, unlike timber

Recent testimonies from our beautiful Mamas:

"The tool that I did not let go of was my labour comb from Seasons of Mama. This baby I clung to for dear life. I was not prepared for how much of an important role this tool played in getting me through those tougher moments, giving me a distraction and something to focus on. Mamas I would be packing this into your labour bag and giving it a go!" - Jessica

"Jen's labour comb helped me get through a spontaneous 12 hour labour, drug free! Can highly recommend her beautiful products to any mumma-to-be" - Michelle

“Also, forgot to mention how freaking good the comb was during labour. That thing was my pain relief and my best friend. I didn’t let go. I almost got sad thinking we had left it in the birthing suite, but Matt had been carrying it in his pocket!” - April

Love your Midwife Mama friend, Jen xx
